Day 7 Thursday 26/7/18
The day after the big day and I ache all over and have some bruising...but feel great.
Had booked on the Yardie Creek Boat tour today, about 90 minutes
drive from Exmouth on the other side of the peninsula.
Left Motel about 9am, quick stop at the 3 Islands Whale Shark
Dive Tour offices in down town Exmouth to pick up our complimentary pictures then off around the top
of the peninsula, down into the Cape Range National Park and on to Yardie
Creek.

Local Dingo wandering along the road |
Although only about 40 minutes the boat cruise was excellent
and the owner an absolute mine of local information. He came to the area in the 1960’s
with his parents when there were only about 16 people in what was to become
Exmouth.
His father setup the first caravan park at Vlamingh Head. The
population grew enormously when the USA and Australian built a jointly operated
listening station, originally known as North West Cape but now the Harold E
Holt Naval Communication Station.

Yardie Creek sand bar - blocking the creek from the ocean |
|
Turquoise Bay - beautiful but the water was to cold to snorkel...what a shame!! |
|
A very popular spot |
From here we visited the Mangrove beach bird hide, and they
were right, the birds were all hiding, some nice person had drawn them all on
the wall for use though so all was not wasted.

Near Mangrove Bay bird hide |
|
Bird hiding but nothing to compare it to..... |
|
Aha...there's a bird ...now where are those lovely pictures now! |
Visited the Turtle hatching grounds, no turtles as it is the
wrong time of the year and then the submarine statue at the Harold Holt
Communications Station before returning to the motel for a relax as we have a
big day tomorrow to get to Kalbarri. It will be around 700kms.
