Day 4 Monday 23/7/18

Day 4: Monday 23/7/18

Today we left Carnarvon at around 9:00 am. Very casual when on holiday.  The morning was grey and threatening but we are going north so hoping things improve.

Dredge and boat inside Carnarvon Harbour

Carnaron is the fruitbowl of the WA region.  These bananas are looking good!

What a wonderful friendly greeting as you leave Carnarvon.

We took a short 100 km detour out to the "blowholes" which was well worth the trip.
Salt flats on the way to the blowholes

After the flat terrain on the way to the Blowholes, a lighthouse suddenly appeared - a lonely sentinel in the vast flat terrain.

Close up of lighthouse - its actually shorter than you would anticipate. But then everything is short and stocky in this part of the world!!  We both fit in quite nicely.

Reaching the blow holes a rather serious warning!! (King waves kill)

Blow holes where quite spectacular and well worth the drive

Returning to the main highway we continued towards Exmouth.  Not a lot to see along the way, there were some interesting places of the road but a) we didn’t really have the time and b) they are mostly unsealed roads which we aren’t allowed to use in our hire car, most of the although quite passable have very rough surfaces with a lot of sharp stones so the road going tyres probably won’t like them at all.
Carpets of wildflowers starting to come through along your way
Stopped for a cup of  tea at Minalya Roadhouse. The only place that could provide a cuppa and a loo between Carnarvon and Exmouth. Had an interesting selection of old steam tractors and Lister generators scattered in the park, all long passed restoration or even salvaging for parts (generators might have been OK). Had to make it clear to Dale "NO NEW PROJECTS!!!"

Arrived mid afternoon in Exmouth and went to the visitors centre for some local information and then off to find our home for the next 4 days, Mantaray Resort where we had a room looking over Exmouth Gulf.

View from our balcony, bit hard to take really!!
Maritta contemplates life after 60!! (Yes that's me...the pink blob in the middle of the dunes)
Some camels wandered by along the foreshore.

View of the pool and bar area

Maritta is almost swallowed by the enormous day bed in our apartment
Distance today 494.7Km
